  Look at something
  When you point a finger at someone
  Three turn to look at you
  I came to the big town
  I knew that things would get better
  But you were right
  I am a village person woman
  Amn’t I ?

  When hunger started to eat me
  People came to my aid
  They cut me some drinks
  And they asked for debt payment
  Yes I am a villageress
  Amn’t I ?

  I couldn’t come home with empty hands
  So i joined those who sell MTN chips
  We sold almost the same thing
  Just that i sold mine when they were about to go home
  That is when market is sweet.
  Today i grind ponce and wear hills in the evenings
  They call me srayqueen. You are not my class
  Did you say I’m a villageress?
  Ah is my money dirty?

• The Hem

  It must have been a week before she died.
  She was her usual cheerful self
  Smiling amidst numerous burdens
  And violations from frying pan and fire.

  She had finally paid off her debts
  She was due for her promotion
  She would have finally lived the life she wanted
  Did it count at this point?

  The hem came rather too late
  Alas, it never even came
  She was drained to the last platelet
  Maybe we would have had a scripture in her
  She would have touched the hem without greedy grins of desire

  She sat Infront of her fire
  He reached for her with the usual grin
  This time she did not stop him
  Then suddenly, he stepped back,
  disgusted by the stench of uncleanness
  His expression said more than a thousand words
  She grinned.

  In the belly of the fish is a trap for money
  Where generational wealth is stored
  Taken away from those down the money chain
  While the lucky ones
  Sip from the smallest opening
  Eyes closed,
  With fantasies of a better future

  The belly of the fish is a cemetery of dreams
  Where talents are of no use
  And ideas are not grey enough
  A universe where all is black and white
  And all that matters
  Is scratching an itching back
